Inpatient Sections: |
|
|
There are three inpatient
sections with a total capacity of 100 beds for
patients who need to be treated while staying at
the hospital. In these sections, supportive care
is given for the newly diagnosed patients with
cancer and for the critically ill cases.
Chemotherapy is also given in these sections.

Outpatient Clinic (OP
Clinic): |
|
|
There are 150-200 pediatric cancer patients
visiting the outpatient clinic daily, starting
from 8.30 a.m. and until 5:00 p.m., either for
consultation, regular check up, drug
administration, diagnosis of new cases or
management of emergency situations. The OPC
provides special services including laboratory
services, the results of which are available at
same day; there are also special services for the
emergency cases. The chemotherapy at the OPC is
prepared in the clinical pharmacy sector by
specialized clinical pharmacists and given at the
treatment room under close supervision by
specialized doctors and nurses. There are also
clinical pathology doctors working on the revision
of all the laboratory results prior to treatment.

Drug Administration Room
(DAR) & Minor Procedures Room: |
|
|
They are located in the outpatient clinic. The DAR
is for chemotherapy administration and for
managing emergency cases, while the minor
procedures room is used for taking the Bone Marrow
aspirates and biopsies or cerebrospinal fluid
analysis. Bone marrow samples are taken under
general anesthesia. |

Clinical Pharmacy: |
|
|
The role of the clinical pharmacy includes the
preparation of the medications according to
accurate and regular calculations. The clinical
pharmacy is also concerned with the sterilization
of the prepared chemotherapy and antibiotics. It
is also involved in supervising administration of
the drugs to the patients, to avoid any
complications or reactions and offer timely
intervention if needed. |

Pediatric Intensive Care
Unit (PICU): |
|
|
A new pediatric ICU is under construction for the
treatment of severely ill cases who need special
medical treatment under the supervision of a
highly specialized doctors and nurses.

Laboratories:
|
|
|
Several laboratories are found in the pediatric
oncology department. A laboratory for blood
analysis (for complete blood count & blood
chemistry) is located inside the O.P clinic to
help getting the results rapidly. There are also
the laboratories for bacteriological analysis
which help in detecting the different types of
pathogens and bacteria in the variable body fluids
and helps also in determining the proper
antibiotics to which the bacteria are mostly
sensitive. The virology laboratory is available
for detecting the different viruses affecting the
children with low immunity (such as Viral
Hepatitis B & C) |

Library and Playing Area:
|

This is an area in which the children can have
fun, read books with the help of volunteers and
play games and watch movies during the period of
their stay at the POD. |

Many patients need physiotherapy for a proper
movement and function due to the effect of disease
and/or treatment. |
